ZIRKEL fiberWave Internet brings Gigabit speeds to Yampa Valley

ZIRKEL’s New FiberWave Internet Network Delivers Fiber-Like Speeds of Up to 1 Gbps to Yampa Valley Homes, Businesses and Multi-Unit Buildings

ZIRKEL has been the preferred local Internet service provider in the Yampa Valley for twenty years. Now the company has launched its new fiberWave gigabit internet service. This new service will provide fiber-like broadband without needing or waiting for fiber to be cut. ZIRKEL fiberWave Internet will be rolled out to neighborhood subscribers interested in becoming part of the Yampa Valley’s first wide area wireless mesh network.

Powered by locals since 2001

“Beginning in 2001, ZIRKEL was the first service provider to bring high-speed Internet to most Routt & Moffat counties,” said ZIRKEL President Alan Belvo. When he moved from Denver to Steamboat Springs in 1999 with his friend and future business partner Sean Heskett, ZIRKEL’s chief technology officer, they were frustrated with the lack of high-speed internet in the area. Back then, extremely slow and unreliable remote access was the only choice for most residents and businesses.

The two friends decided to do something.

In March 2001, they founded ZIRKEL – named after the Zirkel Wilderness area – and began building the ZIRKEL network to provide high-speed connectivity to unserved areas of Steamboat Springs. Funding their new venture with credit cards and home equity loans, the couple established their first antenna site at Legacy Vacation Resorts, Hilltop. By the end of 2003, they had built five antenna sites across Steamboat Springs.

Today, with 27 antenna sites in Routt and Moffat counties, the ZIRKEL network has the largest broadband coverage area in northwest Colorado. The network and its customers are supported by the ZIRKEL team of 15 dedicated local employees. In addition to high-speed internet, they also offer managed Wi-Fi, ZIRKEL phone, Vidgo streaming live TV, and now ZIRKEL fiberWave gigabit internet.

Belvo continues, “I am proud that Sean and I have built a team of dedicated locals who enjoy solving challenges and providing broadband service to our friends, neighbors and the community at large.

The need for more speed

ZIRKEL fiberWave Internet is the next logical step for the company. Using the latest generation of wireless equipment, Yampa Valley’s first wide area mesh network will bring even faster gigabit speeds to the community.

For twenty years, households and businesses have relied on ZIRKEL’s Internet service for work, education, shopping, gaming, video conferencing, video streaming, and more. As the usefulness of the Internet has grown, so have the demands of users, which have exceeded what current Internet networks are capable of providing.

“While many of our subscribers already have the bandwidth they need, multi-person households and businesses running a myriad of bandwidth-intensive devices and applications need it even more,” says Belvo. . “We are responding to this demand by deploying state-of-the-art millimeter wave technology and offering multi-hundred megabit and gigabit packages where demand is greatest.”

Introducing ZIRKEL fiberWave gigabit Internet

In November, ZIRKEL announced the construction of its new mesh network to complement its existing network infrastructure. The ZIRKEL fiberWave Internet network offers plans with symmetrical speeds of 100 Mbps, 500 Mps and 1000 Mbps to subscribers in Northwest Colorado. Symmetrical means that downloads are just as fast as downloads, which is not always the case with most internet technologies where download speeds can be considerably slower.

ZIRKEL fiberWave uses fiber-powered wireless mesh technology to connect homes, businesses, and multiple dwellings with blazingly fast Internet. Overall, fiberWave represents a local alternative to cable or fiber providers. If you have line-of-sight to one of ZIRKEL’s Internet towers or a neighbor’s fiberWave antennas, faster Internet service is within your reach.

“Our low latency combined with significantly faster download and upload speeds allow us to deliver more value to the community,” says Heskett. “With ZIRKEL fiberWave Internet, our goal is to once again make the decision to choose a locally owned and operated ISP a no-brainer when purchasing Internet services.”

Heskett concludes: “Our philosophy is that the ZIRKEL network will never be complete. Each year, we expand our coverage area, forecast capacity and redundancy needs for each of our antenna sites, and enhance our network with more capacity and new technologies to meet the demands of our community and the Internet. of today.

ZIRKEL is in the process of deploying equipment and recruiting fiberWave Internet beta customers within the city limits of Steamboat Springs, Craig, Oak Creek and Yampa. In mid-2022, the company will expand its services to Hayden, Milner, Phippsburg and Stagecoach. By mid-2023, they will offer fiberWave coverage across their entire footprint, including many rural areas.

ZIRKEL fiberWave plans are priced at $99/month for 100 Mbps service, $149/month for 500 Mbps, and $169/month for 1000 Mbps.
