We recently saw a refresh of the Chase and IHG Rewards credit card portfolio. As part of this, the IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card (Revision) and IHG® Rewards Premier Business Credit Card (Revision) have received a new benefit consisting of up to $50 in United TravelBank Cash each calendar year.

In this article, I wanted to take a closer look at how it works, especially since recording is finally working properly.

Get $50 in United Credits every year with IHG Cards

The IHG Rewards Premier Card and IHG Rewards Premier Business Card now offer up to $50 in United Airlines TravelBank Cash each year. Here are the basic terms of how it works:

  • Once registration is required
  • You will receive $25 in United TravelBank Cash deposited around January 1 of each year, valid until July 15; you will then receive $25 in United TravelBank Cash deposited around July 15 of each year, valid until January 15
  • It can take up to two weeks after registration for the first deposit of $25 to occur
  • TravelBank Cash will be associated with your United MileagePlus account and can be applied towards the purchase of a United or United Express itinerary when booking directly with United
  • This is only available to those with the Personal or Business version of the IHG Premier Card, not those with the IHG® Rewards Traveler Credit Card (revision), or those with the IHG Select Card (which is not is more open to new applicants)
  • You can only take advantage of this benefit on one card, even if you have both a personal card and a business card.

How to register your IHG card for United TravelBank Cash

The sign up process to receive your United TravelBank Cash couldn’t be much easier, especially considering you only need to sign up once and then the United TravelBank Cash will be automatically deposited for as long as you are a cardholder. from the menu.

To start, all you need to do is follow this link.

On this page, you’ll want to click the orange “Login” button at the bottom. Then all you need to do is enter your United MileagePlus number and last name, and agree to the terms and conditions.

You will then receive confirmation that your first TravelBank deposit should be posted within two weeks.

To keep an eye on the release date, simply go to the “Wallet” section of your United MileagePlus account and check the “TravelBank” section. Eventually, you should see the TravelBank balance deposited there – hopefully in less than two weeks.

Does this benefit change the value proposition of IHG credit cards?

Individually, the United TravelBank Cash benefit is not a reason to purchase the IHG Rewards Premier Card or the IHG Rewards Premier Business Card. However, as part of the overall benefits, I think it may change the value proposition.

First, regarding the value of United TravelBank Cash:

  • If you book a United ticket at least once every six months, it should be more or less worth the face value of $50.
  • If you book a ticket (roughly) between July 1 and July 15, or between January 1 and January 15, you could even potentially use two credits for a single ticket.

When you consider that in the context of the overall value proposition of these cards, I think it’s extremely lucrative. The IHG Rewards Premier Card and IHG Rewards Premier Business Card have an annual fee of $99 and offer the following benefits:

  • A free anniversary night valid at a property costing up to 40,000 points, which can even be topped up with points to book a more expensive hotel
  • A fourth night free on reward redemptions
  • IHG Rewards Platinum status as long as you are a cardholder
  • A Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS credit once every four years

The annual fee of $99 is reasonable to start with, but if you can get $50 worth of United TravelBank Cash each year, you’re potentially looking at an outlay of just $49 per year. I would say that’s pretty amazing.

Annual Free Night Certificate is my favorite card perk

At the end of the line

As a new benefit, the IHG Rewards Premier Card and IHG Rewards Premier Business Card offer up to $50 in United TravelBank Cash per year. You can now Register for this benefit, then every six months, you will have $25 in United TravelBank Cash deposited into your MileagePlus account.

It’s a generous perk, and one that can help justify the (already reasonable) annual fee on these cards.

Does this new United TravelBank Cash benefit change your calculations on the IHG Premier Card?
