7 reasons to get the Hilton Surpass card
Hotel credit cards are often underrated, considering the huge welcome bonuses and valuable perks they can offer. The Hilton Surpass Card is Hilton’s popular mid-range personal credit card, which has reasonable annual fees and useful perks.
While you can read a full review of the Hilton Surpass card here, in this article I wanted to share seven reasons why you should consider applying for the card. In no particular order:
Up to 180,000 Hilton Honors bonus points
The Hilton Surpass card offers a welcome bonus of up to 180,000 Hilton Honors Points:
- Earn 130,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after spending $ 2,000 in first three months
- Earn an additional 50,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after spending a total of $ 10,000 in the first six months
I rate Hilton Honors Points at around 0.5 cents each, so for me that bonus is worth around $ 900, which is huge.
Hilton Honors Gold Status
Arguably the best continuing benefit of the Hilton Surpass Card is the elite hotel status it offers. Specifically, you enjoy Hilton Honors Gold status for as long as you own the card. This is in my opinion the most valuable mid-level hotel status, as it offers perks such as free breakfast, daily food and drink credit, and / or executive lounge access , plus bonus points, room upgrades and more.
Free night certificate with expenses
Not only is the Hilton Surpass card worth keeping for the perks, it’s also worth the money to spend. When you spend $ 15,000 on the Hilton Surpass card in a calendar year, you receive a Hilton reward in free nights. This can be used for a stay at almost any Hilton family property around the world, which could otherwise sell for up to 150,000 Hilton Honors Points per night.
If you have this card and are able to afford that amount of spending, it is definitely worth it. Best of all, with the current welcome bonus, you’ll be on your way to earning that Free Night Certificate when you’ve spent the minimum amount of money.
10 Priority Pass visits per year
The Hilton Surpass card offers 10 free Priority Pass visits per year. While not quite a membership that gives you unlimited free lounge visits, the reality is that for most people’s travel habits, it should more than cover needs. livingrooms. It’s rare to see a card with an annual fee of less than $ 100 that offers a lounge benefit like this.
12x Honors points on Hilton stays
The Hilton Surpass Card can be a great card to use for spending at Hilton Family properties, as you earn 12 times the Honors Points per dollar spent. Based on my assessment of 0.5 cents per Hilton Honors Point, this equates to a 6% return on Hilton spending, on top of the points you usually earn for your stay.
6x Honors points on gas, groceries and meals
The Hilton Surpass Card offers some of the most comprehensive bonus categories of any resort credit card. The card offers 6x Honors points on:
- Meals at American restaurants, including take-out and delivery
- Gas at American gas stations
- Groceries in American supermarkets
There aren’t many cards offering bonus points on restaurants, gasoline, and groceries, which makes this card very comprehensive. Ideally, you could spend $ 15,000 per year in these categories on the card, so that you would earn 90,000 Honors Points plus a Free Night Certificate.
You can never underestimate the value of the Amex Offers program, which offers savings for purchases from select retailers. The Amex Offers program saves me hundreds of dollars a year, and for many cards, the program alone more than justifies the annual fee I pay. The more Amex cards you have, the more access you will have to Amex offers.
Are you looking for a business card instead?
If you have the Hilton Surpass card and / or are just looking for a business card, consider the Hilton Honors American Express business card. There is a lot of overlap between the two cards, and you are potentially eligible for the bonuses and benefits of both cards.
